Youth Asthma and Encouraging Adherence (with live Q&A)
Asthma continues to be a common cause of emergency admission for children and young people,1 especially during specific times of the year.
Asthma and Lung UK has recently published data that asthma hospitalisations in young people aged between 15 and 24 typically increase by almost 70% in the autumn. This equates to an increase from 4,078 to hospitalisations to 6,707 in England alone.2
Young people may be more vulnerable to becoming uncontrolled due to their living conditions,3 as well as factors which contribute to sub-optimal adherence to their medicines which can lead to serious exacerbations.
Some of these factors include; forgetting to take medication or requesting repeat prescriptions, social representation of asthma and inhaler treatment, and suffering side effects of treatment.4
At Chiesi, we believe it is important that clinicians are able to support and educate their young patients around adherence to help reduce these emergency admissions.
We have invited Dr Graham Heyes, Consultant Respiratory Physician, to present an overview of the clinical aspect of youth asthma (17–24 year olds) including diagnosis, prevalence and symptom management.
He is joined by Respiratory Nurse Specialist Jo Hamilton, who is an asthma practitioner for Children & Young People to provide insight into factors which can influence adherence.
You will also get to experience some patient opinions first hand through our patient videos as part of this webinar.
We hope you are able to join us on Monday 16th December from 1pm–2pm, including a live Q&A session with our guest speakers.
