Viral Infections in Cystic Fibrosis

In this 40-minute webinar, Dr Maitra focuses on respiratory viruses such as respiratory syncytial virus, rhinovirus, and coronavirus and emphasises the importance of viral infections on cystic fibrosis (CF) morbidity and lung function decline. He explains that acute respiratory viral infections are common in CF patients and the paediatric population in particular. Additionally, Dr Maitra explores what could be the reasons for viral infections in CF patients and the possible mechanisms. Dr Maitra then focusses on the impact of viral infections on the CF microbiome and discusses factors in Sars-Cov-2 infection in CF.

  Dr Anirban Maitra is a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and the Director of CF and the Lead for primary ciliary dyskinesia and non-CF bronchiectasis at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. During the past 15 years, he has been involved in the tertiary management of children with complicated respiratory problems.
