Chiesi has been committed to the development of medicines to treat respiratory diseases for more than 30 years. Thanks to modern treatments, patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have a better chance to live more active lives.
Shish Patel – Medical Director
Shish graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacy from the University of Sunderland, and post-graduate diploma in Community Pharmacy from Keele University. Over the last 25 years Shish has held various senior positions within the pharmaceutical industry, both Medical Affairs roles at country level, as well as global roles within a commercial environment. A key therapy area of focus during this time has been respiratory.
Dr Rachel Malone – Associate Medical Director
Rachel graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience in 2001, and from University College London with a PhD in Neuroscience in 2005 [“Nitric Oxide signaling in hippocampal synaptic plasticity”]. Since 2005 she has worked in both pre-clinical and medical affairs roles within the pharmaceutical industry, and has been part of the Chiesi medical team since 2016.
Dr Matthias Ochel – Medical Science Liaison Manager
Matthias graduated from University of Siegen, Germany with a PhD in Chemistry in 1997 [“Intercalation of lithium into chalcogenides with layered structure”]. After a short period in academic research, he joined the pharmaceutical industry, and has been working within the Chiesi medical department since 2014 (initially as a MSL, and more recently as a MSL manager).
Dr Janusz Krolikowski – Medical Science Liaison
Janusz graduated from the University of Sussex with a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry prior to gaining his medical degree at Flinders University, Australia in 2004. He qualified as a GP in the UK in 2012 and worked as a GP before working as a Research Physician from 2019 to 2021. He joined Chiesi as a Respiratory MSL in 2023.
Saarah Niazi-Ali – Medical Science Liaison
Saarah graduated from De Montfort University, Leicester in 2003 and has worked as a Pharmacist since. She has a broad knowledge base in all sectors of pharmacy including hospital, primary care, and CCG. She previously worked as Antibiotic Specialist Pharmacist for 11 years in Greater Manchester before joining Chiesi in 2022 in the role of respiratory MSL.
Maryam Nkala – Medical Science Liaison
Maryam graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a Master’s in Pharmacy in 2012, after which she spent a few years in community pharmacy. She made a move into the pharmaceutical industry in 2016, initially as a sales representative before moving to her first MSL role in 2018. More recently Maryam has joined the Chiesi team as a respiratory MSL in 2023.
Dr Natasha Rangwani – Medical Science Liaison
Natasha graduated from King’s College London in 2018 with a PhD in Neuroscience [“Using microfluidics to understand inflammatory pain pathways”]. She then worked as a pre-clinical scientist and medical writer, focusing primarily on respiratory research for 4 years. In 2021, Natasha joined the Chiesi medical team as a respiratory MSL.
Dr Sasha Stimpson – Medical Science Liaison
Sasha graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2018 with a PhD in Chemistry [“Biophysical studies of a novel family of iridium complexes“] before joining the pharmaceutical industry as a respiratory account executive at Chiesi. She later moved to the medical team as a Medical Advisor in 2021 and has since taken up the role as a respiratory MSL.
Neonatology
For nearly 30 years Chiesi has been deeply committed to neonatology. Working alongside the medical community and investing in neonatal research & development, Chiesi’s ultimate mission is to offer innovative and effective treatment options to improve the level of care for preterm babies.
Rob Cain – Senior Medical Manager
Rob graduated from UCNW in 1994 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Marine Biology and Chemical Oceanography. He has since spent the last 28 years in a variety of roles across both the commercial and medical sides of the pharmaceutical industry, with specialities ranging from respiratory, cardiovascular disease, metabolic diseases and lysosomal storage disorders. Rob joined the Chiesi Medical Team in 2022 as a Senior Medical Manager specialising in Neonatology and Cardiology.
Rare Diseases
Chiesi Global Rare Diseases is committed to the research and development of innovative treatments for people living with rare and ultra-rare diseases, many of whom have limited or no treatments available.
Dr Kamran Iqbal – Head of Medical Affairs
Kamran graduated from St Georges Hospital Medical School in 2003 with a BSc in Basic Medical Sciences. Since graduating he is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), and has gathered clinical experience across various specialities including general medicine, nephrology, dermatology and cardiology. Kamran made the move to the pharmaceutical industry in 2012 and joined Chiesi UK as Head of Medical Affairs for the rare diseases portfolio in 2023.
Dr Stuart Gaffney – Medical Manager
Stuart graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a BSc (Hons) in Immunology and Pharmacology in 2009, before studying Medicine at the University of Dundee in 2014. Stuart worked in NHS in Scotland as an Anaesthetic Registrar before joining Chiesi in September 2021 as Medical Manager for Rare Diseases.
Phil Dawson – Medical Science Liaison
Phil graduated from the University of Leeds in 1994 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Biochemistry & Genetics. After a brief spell in clinical research he joined the pharmaceutical industry, initially in commercial roles before moving to the medical side and specialising in rare, genetic diseases.
Sogol Salamipour – Medical Advisor
Sogol graduated with a Master of Pharmacy degree from King’s College London in 2015 and spent some time practising as a clinical hospital pharmacist. Sogol then went on to obtain a PhD in Molecular Biology at King’s College London before joining the Chiesi medical team in 2021 as a Medical Science Liaison in the Special Care team. In October 2023, she moved into the Rare Disease team as a Medical Advisor.
Dr Tom Kenny – Patient Advocacy Lead
Tom studied Medicine at the University of Southampton, graduating in 1998. He started his career as a GP before retraining in Public Health Medicine in 2005 and working at all levels of commissioning within the NHS and as a director within the NIHR. In 2018 Tom transitioned into a role as CEO of Rare Disease Research Partners for the MPS Society before joining Chiesi as Patient Advocacy Lead for Rare Diseases in 2023.
Special Care
Chiesi is also focussing its attention on the treatment and care of patients suffering from chronic severe conditions, which can be potentially life threatening: Cystic Fibrosis and Solid Organ Transplantation.

Becky Dunn – Senior Medical Manager
Becky graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2004 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science and Medical Microbiology and has over 18 years’ experience across both the commercial and medical sides of the pharmaceutical industry. She joined the Chiesi medical team in 2022 as a Medical Manager specialising in Cystic fibrosis and Transplantation.
Andrew Milton – Medical Science Liaison
Andrew graduated from the University of Kent with BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences in 2013, and MSc (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Drug Design in 2014. He joined Chiesi in 2016 and spent 7 years working across various commercial roles in respiratory. In 2023, Andrew joined the Chiesi medical team as the cardiovascular MSL.
